Practicalites

Things to do now

· Please begin praying that the weekend would be a time when God speaks clearly to each of us and challenges us.

· Please pray as well that it would be a time of encouragement, fellowship, and a refreshing time away.

· Please can you let us know if you are a car driver and are able to bring your car to the weekend away.

· Begin to build up your appetite - both for food and for hearing and learning from God.

Packing List

· The Youth Hostel provides bedding in the form of sheet sleeping bags and duvets. To reduce luggage we would encourage you to use the bedding provided but if you would prefer your own sleeping bag then feel free to bring it along.

· Walking boots, waterproof trousers and coats as we're planning a walk to the Needles on Saturday afternoon

· Bible, notebook and pen.

· All needed clothes, towels, toiletries, beauty products, false teeth, hair pieces, wigs, fashion accessories etc

· Any musical instrument you play (except bagpipes).

About Totland Youth Hostel

· The Youth Hostel can accommodate a maximum 44 people and it is looking like we will be cosy and a bit of a squeeze but that should help us get to know each other!!

· There are 2x2, 5x4, 2x6, and 1x8 bedrooms. You will be allocated to a room when you arrive.

Transport Arrangements to TotlandBay

· We are hoping that we will have sufficient cars to transport everyone to the weekend via the Red Funnel ferries from Southampton (leaving 3pm, 4:30pm, 6pm, 7:30pm and 9pm).

· If for some reason you need to travel as a foot passenger we can collect you from the Ferry ports in Yarmouth (5 minutes from hostel) and Cowes (35 minutes from hostel).

· We will let you know the Transport arrangements during the week prior to the weekend once we know how many cars we have, who is coming and when people can leave.

How to pay for the weekend

· It would be really helpful to us if you could pay by cheque either prior to or during the weekend away. We will be designating someone to be responsible for collecting money.

· All cheques should be made payable to "Southampton Student Ministry"

· The cost of the weekend is a complete bargain at £30 Unwaged/undergrads or £50 Waged/post grads (nb: including all food, transport and accomodation) but please let us know if this causes a problem - money should not prevent anyone from coming!

Final thoughts

· We hope you find all aspects of the weekend helpful but please speak to one of us if you have any issues on the weekend itself.

· There are a number of older students and graduates going to be available throughout the weekend. We would encourage you to make the most of having them around. They in turn will be looking to take some initiative to get alongside you to support, encourage and help you.

· Leave your mobile phone at home or switch it off so that you can enjoy the weekend and not be distracted by what is going on at home.

· In Philippians 2 Paul says we should look not only to our own interests but also to the interests of others. On the weekend, we would encourage you to be inclusive of others and to take a genuine interest in one another. We are a small enough group to get to know each other well and to look out for one another. Perhaps it would be worth considering how we can (in humility) consider others better than ourselves in all aspects of the weekend.
