SUPPORTING SOTON NAVS

SOTON NAVS is one of a number of students ministries across the UK which operate under the auspices of The Navigators. The Navigators are an international missions organisation and are registered as a charity in the UK. The ministry is led by the SOTON NAVS leadership team (see leadership) which is made up mature students and graduates. Currently there are seven individuals working with the Navigators, Steve & Debs McClure, Tim Peters, Dave Callaghan (all NAVS representatives) and Stephen Merrit-Harrison (serving on the Connect programme).

Representatives / Connect workers

All Navigators representatives are self-employed and responsible for raising finances to cover personal and ministry needs from those interested in the ministry (e.g. alumni, friends, family, churches). Examples of some typical ministry expenses include hospitality, materials and resources, weekends away, travel, overseas mission trips and there are also a number of other responsibilities associated with being NAVS representatives like annual/training conferences, central services contributions and regular communication to supporters.

There is also a need to raise support for the student group to pay for the cost of meals, subsidise weekends away, or mission trips, group events (e.g. Christmas meal, days away) and pay for group resources / materials.

If you would like to financially support any of the SOTON NAVS Rrepresentatives OR specifically support the Southampton Student Ministry you can do so by contacting them directly or contacting the Navigators office. My connect year was quite an eventful one. I was quite excited about my first attempt at full time ministry and fully trusting God financially. Indeed he provided. I learnt more about God, the book of Romans and British culture. I learnt that God is always good whether it feels that way or not. He was an ever present help in trouble and this year just taught me how to cast my cares upon him. I really enjoyed my Connect days and reading books not to measure up to the expectations of man but just out of friendship with God. I learnt that I am a daughter. I learnt that God looks at the posture of our hearts and sincerity was important. The mission trip to Tanzania helped me learn more about Gods’ love for his world. It was a joy to celebrate his love with the team and the kids out there. Connect helped me as a person focus more on the things that really matter in life. It’s always a privilege to serve Jesus.
